File Preparation

Photoshop New Document

When creating a new file in photoshop you need to be aware of the initial settings, they are not something you can just go back later and change (you can but not really, just trust me it's better to start off on the right foot).

I have 600 dpi entered, which 300 is standard. The more dots per inch you have in a raster file the smoother it will appear when printed. The only issue with photoshop files or raster/jpg images is the file sizes, you may have to use dropbox or another file sharing service.

The size should be the size you would like the final artwork to be. The entered size in the image is our MAX standard size (which does not work on all shirt types and sizes. Ex: youth sizes, hoodies, v-necks. So keep your apparel in mind when designing).

Photoshop Rasterize Type

Before you send a .psd file or when you are ready to send your files to print you will need to rasterize your type (flatten into an image).

*NOTE* - SAVE A COPY AS THE ORIGINAL AND ONE FOR PRINT. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EDIT THE TYPE ANY LONGER ONCE RASTERIZED.

To do this you will need to select the Font Layer > Right Click > Rasterize Type.

You will need to do this with each font layer. Doing this will keep there from being any font issues from your computer to ours.

Illustrator Outline Type

Before you send an .ai file or when you are ready to send your files to print you will need to outline your type (converts the type to a vector object).

*NOTE* - SAVE A COPY AS THE ORIGINAL AND ONE FOR PRINT. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EDIT THE TYPE ANY LONGER ONCE RASTERIZED.

To do this you will need to select the Type/Font > Type (along the upper menu) > Create Outlines.

You can also select everything and then Type (along the upper menu) > Create Outlines. Doing this will keep there from being any font issues from your computer to ours.
